Designer/Intern Architect
Cambridge, Massachusetts and Chapel Hill, North Carolina
We are looking for two Designer/Intern Architects working toward licensure; one candidate will work out of our Cambridge, Massachusetts office, and one will work out of our Chapel Hill, North Carolina office. Strong detail-oriented design ability and exceptional graphic skills are required. Candidates must be proficient with REVIT, AutoCAD, Sketch-Up and Photoshop. Proficiency with other modeling software such as 3ds Max or Rhino as well as rendering tools a plus. Construction document experience desired. Successful candidates will possess design talent and excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Assist in the preparation of presentations including drawings, models and reports. The ideal candidates will have 4 plus years of experience, working toward licensure and must possess a B. Arch or M. Arch degree.
Junior Electrical Engineering Designer
Cambridge, Massachusetts
SMMA is seeking a Junior Electrical Engineering Designer with 1-5 years of experience, who is looking to develop and grow their career. The ideal candidate will be organized, comfortable working on projects of varied size and scope, and have a responsible and dedicated work style with good time management skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize their workload. Must have a minimum of an Associate's Degree in Drafting and Design Technology or related field. Must have the ability to read and understand basic design plans. Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit preferred. Experience with MS Office Suite required. Working knowledge of NEC, MEC, IBC, and NFPA codes and standards preferred.
Interior Designer
Cambridge, Massachusetts
SMMA is seeking an Interior Designer with 4-6 years of experience to join our K-12 Sector. The ideal candidate must possess strong conceptual and detail-oriented design skills, as well as experience with detailing and construction documentation in Revit. This position will also involve preparing presentation materials such as finish boards, conceptual sketches, and finish plans. Candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design (FIDER Accredited) or Architecture, and be skilled in programming, Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp or other 3D modeling programs. Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to multi-task while managing multiple deadlines are essential. NCIDQ certification is a plus. Strong experience in public school design preferred.
Senior Life Science Architect
Cambridge, Massachusetts
SMMA seeks a dynamic and experienced licensed architect to lead its Life Science Sector. The firm’s multi-disciplinary practice offers the Life Science market a practice model with inherent value to these particular clients and project types. This position offers the opportunity to build upon the firm’s relationships with several key life science clients and others with similar needs. It requires a self-motivated leader who can market, guide, and lead the growth and strategic initiatives of this important sector. A diverse range of life science expertise is desired—most importantly research laboratories within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and/or institutional sectors. BArch or March degree required.
Mechanical (HVAC) Designer
Cambridge, Massachusetts
We are looking for a qualified and experienced HVAC designer with 4+ years of experience. The position requires expertise in Revit, CAD and HVAC design. Excellent communication and organization skills are required. Responsibilities will include load calculations, equipment sizing and selection, piping and ductwork design, LEED documentation. Experience with a wide range of project types (i.e. commercial, university, K-12 schools, labs and cleanrooms) is desired. A B.S. in Engineering and LEED AP is preferred.
Senior Civil Engineer
Cambridge, Massachusetts
We are looking for a qualified Senior Civil Engineer with 8+ years of engineering experience. The ideal candidate will have broad site design and permitting skills for building design projects. Experience with K-12 school site design in MA and RI a big plus. Permitting experience with a wide range of local and State permitting processes required, including Wetlands Protection Act, MEPA, Site Plan Approvals processes, NPDES, Sewer Connection Permits, Title 5, Groundwater Discharge Permit Process, etc. Good hydraulics/hydrology skills essential. AutoCAD skills preferred. Must have a BSCE and a PE. Req. #44
Plumbing and Fire Protection Designer
Cambridge, Massachusetts
We are looking for a qualified experienced Plumbing and Fire Protection designer with 5+ years of design experience. The position requires expertise in Revit, CAD and plumbing/Fire Protection design. The position presents a challenging opportunity to work with and amongst the company and department leadership to help forge the continued development of a strong department that will support the strategic goals of the firm. Excellent communication and organization skills are required. Must have experience in Plumbing, Fire Protection and Process piping design to support a range of project types across different industries (i.e., commercial, university, K-12 schools, labs and residential). A BS in Engineering is preferred.
Architecture Co-Op/Internship
Chapel Hill, North Carolina
SMMA's Chapel Hill, North Carolina office seeks a college student pursuing a B. Arch or M. Arch degree. The individual will perform basic architectural assignments and work from the design of others; prepare architectural plans, renderings and models; inspect architectural features of structures in the field; and perform drafting assignments in support of architectural tasks utilizing manual and automated drafting skills. Candidates must have excellent communication skills.
Interior Designer
Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Interior Designer with 4-6 years’ experience to join our new North Carolina office. This independent, high-energy, self-motivated position focuses on the firm's corporate and commercial, institutional, and science and technology markets. Must provide strong conceptual and detail oriented design as well as detailing and construction documentation in CAD. Will prepare and produce presentation materials. Candidates must have: Bachelors in Interior Design (FIDER Accredited) or Architecture; CAD skills; Revit skills; PC-based skills (Microsoft: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook; Adobe: InDesign, Photoshop; and/or Sketch Up and other 3D modeling programs); Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work with a broad range of personalities; Effectiveness at multi-tasking and managing multiple deadlines.
