Six Students Awarded SMMA Scholarships

Six outstanding Boston area high school students pursuing studies in architecture, engineering, and related disciplines have been awarded scholarships from the SMMA Fund. SMMA architect Kate Jessup presented a $1,500 scholarship to Brianna Maggio of Lynn Classical High School. The Fund was established in 2011 to encourage young people to enter and thrive in the design professions. It also represents a desire by SMMA to be active in the communities we serve—the two winners from Quincy High School, for example, attend school in a building designed by SMMA.

The following students are this year’s recipients:

  •     Tina Unwalla, Bedford High School
  •     Jorge Elias, Chelsea High School
  •     Braden Mungeam, Douglas High School
  •     Brianna Maggio, Lynn Classical High School
  •     Allan Wong, Quincy High School
  •     Xylena Desquilado, Quincy High School

Scholarship winner Tina Unwalla reacted as follows: "My graduation ceremony was yesterday and the day was filled with great excitement! I look forward to studying Civil Engineering at Penn State University this fall. This scholarship gives me great motivation and confidence to excel in my college endeavors. I thoroughly appreciate the firm's support for my dream to be an engineer."
