SMMA to Open New Providence Office
Architecture, Engineering, Planning and Interior Design Firm
Continues Planned Expansion in R.I.
Cambridge, MA – July 2, 2008 — Symmes, Maini & McKee Associates/SMMA has opened a new office in Providence, RI to continue expanding planning and design services to clients in greater Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. Opened July 1st, the office is located at 400 Westminster Street.
“We see great opportunity to tap into the energy and entrepreneurial spirit in Providence,” stated Ara Krafian, President of SMMA. “SMMA has worked on more than a dozen projects for our clients in Rhode Island, and opening the new office is a big step in our planned expansion of services and commitment to Providence-area clients,” he said.
SMMA’s Rhode Island clients include Providence College, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island/BCBSRI, the University of Rhode Island, Cox Communications, and the town of East Greenwich. The new 325,000 sf downtown tower project for BCBS/RI is currently SMMA’s largest project in Providence, and the City’s largest construction project. Completion is expected in late 2009, according to Mark Spaulding, AIA, SMMA’s Principal-in-Charge of the BCBS/RI project.
“As an integrated architecture, engineering, planning, and interior design firm, we are in a position in Rhode Island to work with clients during all phases of their project planning and development,” noted Mark Zarillo, FASLA, AICP, who will head up the Rhode Island office for SMMA. “We are already well known in the community through visible and active projects for Providence College and BCBS/RI, and hope to become better known through our increased involvement in the community that this location affords us,” Zarillo said.
