SMMA Scholarship in its 12th Year
Boston MA – Symmes Maini & McKee Associates’ principal Thomas Coffman, AIA, presented the annual SMMA Founders’ Scholarship to its 12th recipient on September 21st at the yearly dinner of the Massachusetts Building Congress.
The scholarship is granted to an exceptional college student who is an employee and/or immediate family member of an MBC organization for the purpose of supporting young people’s interest in the design and construction professions. SMMA created and funded the scholarship in 1997 to honor the firm’s early leaders.
The Massachusetts Building Congress is an 85-year-old professional association that brings together multiple segments of the construction industry. SMMA selected it as the scholarship’s awarding agency because of the firm’s cultural commitment to a multi-disciplinary approach to facilities development.
Currently an MBC board member and vice president, Mr. Coffman presented the scholarship to this year’s winner and also introduced the first recipient, who had gone on to complete his undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral education in pursuit of a career in biomedical engineering.
SMMA founders Parker Symmes PE, William Maini PE, and Jon McKee AIA attended this year’s dinner, accompanied by SMMA CEO Michael K. Powers, PE, FACEC, FASPE.
