Darling and McCormack Announced as Principals at SMMA
January 17, 2024
SMMA has announced two promotions to the role of principal: architect and Design Technology Manager Dave Darling, and Director of Administration Heather McCormack.
The SMMA Fund, the firm's philanthropic arm, has awarded its 2017 scholarship to Daniel Morton, a senior from Hudson High School. Daniel was chosen from a field of applicants based on his academic performance, recommendations from his counselors and teachers, and his stated intent to pursue studies in the field of design that contributes to the built environment.
With appreciation for his achievements and sadness on his loss, we share the news of the passing of Bill Maini, a founding partner and former president and chief executive officer of SMMA. Together with Parker Symmes, Bill founded Vappi Symmes and Maini in 1955, at 240 Sidney Street in Cambridge. When architect Jon McKee joined the young firm three years later, they changed the name to Symmes Maini & McKee Architects and Engineers.
Two members of SMMA's K-12 Studio, Lorraine Finnegan and Philip Poinelli, have been selected to serve as judges for Engineering News-Record New England and the American Institute of Architects Committee of Architecture for Education, respectively.
The first quarter of 2017 was a busy one for a number of SMMAers, both in and out of the office. Here is a brief staff-level recap of some of the goings-on of the past few months.
