Darling and McCormack Announced as Principals at SMMA
January 17, 2024
SMMA has announced two promotions to the role of principal: architect and Design Technology Manager Dave Darling, and Director of Administration Heather McCormack.
SMMA is pleased to announce that Jessica Smith, Director of the firm’s Technology Studio, and Ryan Farias, Director of Marketing, have been appointed principals. They join a group of 25 professionals with decades of industry experience whose backgrounds span numerous areas of expertise. As principals, they will share in the responsibility of maintaining the health of the firm, guiding its continued growth and shaping its strategic vision for the future.
SMMA recently capitalized on an ideal opportunity to make good on our pledge to engage Somerville High School students in the process of revitalizing their own educational environment. Project Director Alex Pitkin and the School Building Committee sought a brochure that could be easily distributed to the community at strategic locations throughout the City, emphasizing project transparency by outlining objectives and status. Through discussion with staff, Project Architect Matt Rice, a Somerville resident, identified an opportunity to involve students in design and production efforts.
The Maine Army National Guard recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the official opening of its new SMMA-designed Aviation Readiness Center in Bangor, Maine. The facility, which broke ground in June 2013, provides a consolidated home for nearly 180 servicemen and women in the 126th, 142nd, and 224th Aviation battalions.
This week, two SMMA employees—Michael Kyes, AIA, LEED AP, andSteven Burke, LEED AP BD+C & ID+C—will be speaking at ArchitectureBoston Expo 2015, the Northeast’s largest annual architecture and construction event. Taking place at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, ABX is the ideal venue for these key members of staff to spark discussion among the design community and share the expertise that they bring to the office every day.
