Providence College - Slavin CenterProvidence, Rhode Island |
OverviewThe phased expansion and renovation of the 38-year old, 62,455-square-foot Slavin Center consolidates the full range of student life functions and facilities on campus. SMMA has been involved in all of the planning, design, and construction for the multi-phased project. The 8,800-square-foot addition includes a glass curtain wall atrium, 24-hour restaurant, radio and TV production center, and public meeting space. Other completed projects at Providence College include relocation and renovation of career services, creation of the new student entertainment venue McPhail’s, relocation of the information desk and expansion and connection of the building with the atrium of the new Concannon Fitness Center. Future projects include creation enlarging the main entrance to two stories; relocating the bookstore; adding conference rooms and area for student activities, and expanding ’64 Hall, the largest meeting space on campus, to accommodate up to 900 people, as well as other minor renovations and student life improvements. The site design incorporates indoor and outdoor plantings that allow visualization of the redesign and regrade quadrangle in front of the addition. The landscape design includes benches, lighting and bike racks to accommodate students. A bioswale integrated the stormwater management into a sustainable site design approach that creates an example for future landscape renovations on campus. |
