OverviewThe new Fort Devens Armed Forces Reserve Center (AFRC) Training Facility is a 7-building, 55-acre, 276,000 sf complex and is one of the largest Armed Forces Reserve Centers in the country. The complex is designed in accordance with the US Army Corps of Engineers specifi cations and standards. All buildings were designed to meet Massachusetts State Building Code, International Building Code, ADA-AG, UFC, Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP), AR, and all relevant military critieria so required. The facilities will be occupied by the United States Army Reserve, the Massachusetts Army National Guard, and the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Architecturally, the design of the facilities is inspired by their physical and cultural context and intended use, which varies from specialized training spaces to hard use maintenance areas. The project was designed for LEED Silver certification. The AFRC includes 49,107 sf of High Bay space, with a clearance of 25 feet, and traveling overhead cranes at 18 feet. Additionally, workbays are equipped with radiant fl oor heating, and gas, electricity and air at the perimeter and vehicle lifts. The paint bay is outfitted with a prep booth and a spray booth that provide controlled dust-free environments within the bay for repairs, prep, and painting of vehicles. |
