Rutland US Armed Forces Reserve CenterRutland, Vermont |
OverviewSMMA's design for the US Armed Forces Reserve Center Complex in Rutland, Vermont demonstrates the firms commitment to finding design solutions that not only meet our client’s needs, but also their budget. The project is comprised of six buildings, including a 63,000 sf Training Building, a 7,400 sf Organizational Maintenance Shop, and one 3,100 sf Unheated Storage Buildings—all occupied by the United States Army Reserve and Vermont National Guard. Designed in accordance with the US Army Corps of Engineers specifications and standards, all buildings were designed to meet the 2006 International Building Code, ADA-AG, UFC, AT/FP, AR and all relevant military criteria so required, and all other required codes. Sustainable design practices were incorporated into the architectural design and engineering as appropriate. The buildings and site were designed to meet the criteria established by the US Green Building Council’s Green Building Rating System for New Construction Version 2.2 “LEED Silver” level of certification. The variety of specifications involved in the design required clear, effective communication and coordination, which SMMA was easily able to provide. Design and construction of the Rutland AFRC represented a total project collaboration between the USACE, our build partner, J&J Contractors, and SMMA. The project is funded as a BRAC project, meaning the project was completed within a fixed duration on a fixed date in order to avoid jeopardizing funding. Because of the aggressive scheduling, the team developed a fast track schedule that met the rigorous USACE review requirements, yet provided the design/build team with adequate time to successfully develop the project. |
