Structural engineering at SMMA comprises a unique blend of consulting engineering and practical collaboration. Our integrated design expertise is augmented by constant communication with the other disciplines in the firm, resulting in a fully coordinated team working in concert to create buildings that are streamlined, functional, and aesthetically captivating. SMMA's multidisciplinary organization informs our appreciation for and consideration of design issues outside the realm of structural engineering.

Value-Added Design

Extending beyond the traditional scope of services inherent to the integrated design process, the Structural Group provides consulting engineering to out-of-house architects and build teams. Our experience with schools, advanced technology and life science facilities, and multifamily residential developments is significant, giving us a detailed background that can be applied to numerous project types and locations. We utilize advanced analytical software, in conjunction with our 3D modeling tools, to create a maximally efficient BIM workflow.

Depth of Experience

Our engineers have deep institutional knowledge of existing structures in the New England area and beyond, and are well-versed in working with a wide range of materials—from wood and steel, to concrete and masonry—and construction methods. Our diverse portfolio stands as testament to our dedication to the design process and the successful construction of every building we create.

SMMA creatively responded by finding ways to distribute the loads of the new building so that the existing capacity of the foundation was optimized and no individual column foundation was over-stressed.
