SMMA Completes Design Adaptation for 15-Story Residential Tower

SMMA recently completed adaptive redesign for 22 Water Street, a 15-story multifamily housing development to be built next year in the NorthPoint District of Cambridge. Jointly developed by Catamount Management and The Guterriez Company, the 392-unit tower is one of the first projects at North Point to receive all required permits, funding and design approvals. It is designed to meet LEED Silver sustainable design standards for certification by the USGBC.

Originally designed in 2007 as high-rise condominiums by SMMA in association with Arquitectonica, the 22 Water Street project was stalled by adverse economic conditions. As part of a new $2 billion reinvestment at North Point, the building’s new rental apartment design features a mix of studio, 1 and 2-bedroom units located adjacent to a relocated Lechmere MBTA Green Line station. When complete in 2014, the 22 Water Street tower will feature views of the Boston skyline and Zakim Bridge, a double-height lobby, fitness facility, roof garden, concierge services, parking, a coffee shop and an adjacent hiking and biking trail.
