“Cantasia” Is SMMA's Entry to CANstruction 2013

SMMA participated in CANstruction Boston, an annual charity event wherein A/E/C firms from Greater Boston compete in building sculptures made entirely of canned goods. This year’s CANstruction had a Hollywood theme: “Lights, Camera, Action!”

The SMMA team was inspired to recreate a scene from a timeless motion picture“Fantasia.” The scene shows the Sorcerer’s Apprentice about to climb a curved stairway, with his shadow cast against the floor and wall. There were 2,869 cans used for the sculpture, and they and all of the cans from CANstruction 2013 will be delivered to the Merrimack Valley Food Bank, after being on view for two weeks at the Boston Society of Architects' BSA Space at 290 Congress Street in Downtown Boston.
