WPRI-TV's Executive Suite Features SMMA’s Ara Krafian

SMMA’s Ara Krafian, Chairman, President, and CEO, recently sat with WPRI news reporter Ted Nesi for a discussion on the Rhode Island market, SMMA’s presence over the past decade, and plans moving forward. Nesi hosts the popular Executive Suite news program, featuring weekly in-depth interviews with top business leaders from Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts.

The conversation provides insight into SMMA’s expansion to Providence, which began in 2008 and has been evolving ever since. To date, the firm has worked on over 250 projects throughout Rhode Island encompassing all scales and sizes.

Other conversational topics cover SMMA’s integrated and multidisciplinary model, changes in the architectural world, and Rhode Island’s potential for growth and enrichment.

“My advice [about the Providence market] is to stop focusing so much on rents, and to start focusing on all the amenities. It’s about placemaking, and Providence is a great college town with great institutions. Focus on the education, focus on the master planning, and focus on the ‘big picture’ ideas. It’s a great place to be […] it’s got all the amenities you’d want! […] The focus is the place and the opportunity – and oh, by the way, it’s a bargain!”
