Four High School Seniors Receive Scholarship Funds From SMMA

SMMA’s annual scholarship program has awarded a combined $5,000 to four high school seniors in Massachusetts. The scholarship is open to students who attend a high school designed by SMMA.

This year’s recipients were selected for demonstrating leadership at school and in the wider community. They have participated in programs such as the National Honor Society, AP Scholar, and Plummer Youth Promise Organization, as well as various peer mentorship, volunteering, and community exchange programs.

The SMMA Fund was launched in 2011 to provide financial aid to high school seniors in communities where SMMA has designed high schools. Scholarships are awarded for students’ continued education in a field of design that contributes to the built environment, such as architecture, engineering, and interior design. Overall, SMMA has awarded 55 scholarships totaling more than $60,000 to students from 17 high schools.

The 2022 recipients are:

  • Roman Conca, West Springfield High School—Lafayette College, Environmental Engineering-design-Architecture
  • Skyla Rimple, Mashpee High School—University of Pennsylvania, Urban Planning and Civil Engineering
  • Matthew Wong, Quincy High School—UMass Amherst, Civil Engineering
  • Tyler Henlotter, Marblehead High School—Georgia Institute of Technology, Architecture
