Darling and McCormack Announced as Principals at SMMA
January 17, 2024
SMMA has announced two promotions to the role of principal: architect and Design Technology Manager Dave Darling, and Director of Administration Heather McCormack.
Grafton High School and SMMA were honored with a Project of Distinction award by the Council of Educational Facility Planners International at the association’s northeast regional conference. Opened last September, the school's 187,000-square-foot campus is designed to support a variety of learning styles while fostering essential career skills including collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving.
SMMA's design for the EMC Durham Center of Excellence data center, Phases I and II, in Durham, NC has received LEED Commercial Interiors Gold Certification from the United States Green Building Council. SMMA’s concept and design of the facility achieves multiple advantages for the owner, including qualifying for $660,000 in power company rebates and reduction of EMC’s overall carbon footprint by 100 million pounds of CO₂. The building also represents the most ambitious completed data center in SMMA’s Technology Studio portfolio.
Quincy High School, designed by SMMA, is one of 64 schools, and only four in Massachusetts, honored by the U.S. Department of Education with the Green Ribbon School Award. Quincy High School was honored as one of the schools that, according to the USDE, have made “exemplary efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, promote better health, and ensure effective environmental education.”
