Focus on Discipline and Mentorship

“In life and work, my motto is simple: Do it better! I enjoy being challenged and utilizing my expertise—hard work and discipline are extremely important to me,’” says Stella. As a senior member of the Electrical Engineering Department, Stella tries to instill an appreciation for diligence and a commitment to completing the job in the most professional and time-efficient manner possible. She also enjoys mentoring and working with junior engineers, encouraging them to ask more questions and seek new levels of development. “I enjoy watching them successfully apply the knowledge they’ve acquired in college to real-life projects, working toward achieving successful outcomes,” she adds.

Engineering Roots

Both of Stella’s parents and her sister were engineers. She credits her family, especially her father, for inspiring her to pursue engineering.

“My dad taught me that discipline was the most important factor in achieving professional success. If you have it, you can transition to any field or position and learn what you need to do the job well,” she says. “Although I may never be able to replicate his path, my dad—a real scientist-engineer—will always be my role model and inspiration!”
