A Green Roof for Hood Park's The Harvey

50 Hood Park Drive
Charlestown, MA

Construction was recently completed on the SMMA-designed green roof and streetscape at The Harvey, also known as 50 Hood Park Drive. Its 12,000 sf of rooftop terrace includes over 8,000 native plants, community vegetable gardens, sitting areas, grills, private patios, and a large FSC-certified wooden deck. Dubbed “The Sun Spot,” the terrace serves as a focal point for the new residential building. Additionally, the streetscape is designed to provide a generous pedestrian realm outside of the building, introduce more native planting, and responsibly manage stormwater with infiltration basins and permeable paving.

As the first major project to be constructed for the Hood Park Master Plan, 50 Hood Park Drive is LEED Platinum certified and helps transform the former industrial site into a desirable corner of Charlestown through mixed-use development, connectivity, and accessibility to the rest of the neighborhood. Landscape Architecture and Civil Engineering by SMMA, Architecture by CBT Architects.
