Darling and McCormack Announced as Principals at SMMA
January 17, 2024
SMMA has announced two promotions to the role of principal: architect and Design Technology Manager Dave Darling, and Director of Administration Heather McCormack.
Two SMMA-designed elementary schools were MA-CHPS Verified over the summer, just in time for students to resume classes. The Center School in Stow earned 42 points, even though verification required only 34 points. Parker Elementary School in Billerica earned 39 points out of the required 34.
The world headquarters of Keurig, the coffee system maker and subsidiary of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, was topped-off on August 15. The 275,000-square-foot building, designed by SMMA, is on a 16-acre site adjacent to Route 128 in Burlington, and is being developed by the Gutierrez Company.
Symphony Court, a luxury housing development by Catamount in the heart of Boston's Fenway District, had its topping-off ceremony on August 5. The building is the repositioning of a former garage fronting on Westland Avenue.
“Here and Now: A Call To Action” was the challenge presented to students vying for the 2013 Lyceum Fellowship, which drew entries from students at 15 architecture schools in the U.S. and Canada. Eschewing the normal architectural competition format—presenting a site and asking for design interventions—Lyceum participants were urged by the competition’s authors to “initiate, not merely respond,” and to “forecast and seed change” by identifying an urban problem, studying it deeply and then formulating a compelling response. Nothing less than a “radical critique,” as the competition’s authors put it, was called for in each submission.
