MEMS Technology Center in Final Construction Phase

The Richard Desich SMART Commercialization Center for Microsystems, a research and development center for producing sophisticated Microelectro Mechanical Systems technology, is moving closer to a scheduled 2013 opening. SMMA provided architecture and engineering design services for two class 1000 and two class 100 clean rooms and a lab suite at the Center.

SMMA Completes Design Adaptation for 15-Story Residential Tower

March 7, 2012

SMMA recently completed adaptive redesign for 22 Water Street, a 15-story multifamily housing development to be built next year in the NorthPoint District of Cambridge. Jointly developed by Catamount Management and The Guterriez Company, the 392-unit tower is one of the first projects at North Point to receive all required permits, funding and design approvals. It is designed to meet LEED Silver sustainable design standards for certification by the USGBC.

Poinelli Elevated to AIA College of Fellows

Philip J. Poinelli, FAIA, a Principal with SMMA, was named to the College of Fellows by the American Institute of Architects 2012 Jury of Fellows. Elevation to Fellowship is an honor awarded to AIA members who have made significant contributions to the architecture profession and society on a national level.

New Wellesley High School Celebrates Early Opening

March 6, 2012

SMMA’s Wellesley High School design team joined town officials, students, faculty and residents to celebrate the opening of Wellesley’s new 280,000-square-foot high school. As class of ’40 and ’41 alumni ceremoniously turned out the lights in the old gymnasium, more than 1400 students walked from the old gymnasium to begin school in the adjacent new building. Scheduled to open in September, the new $115M high school was completed six months early and on budget.
