Quincy High School, designed by SMMA, is one of 64 schools, and only four in Massachusetts, honored by the U.S. Department of Education with the Green Ribbon School Award. Quincy High School was honored as one of the schools that, according to the USDE, have made “exemplary efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, promote better health, and ensure effective environmental education.”
Martine Dion, AIA, LEED AP, BD+C, SMMA’s Director of Sustainable Design, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association, an organization that advances the adoption of sustainable energy practices in the built environment throughout the northeast region.
SMMA's design for the Archie R. Cole Middle School was given an Honor Award by the Rhode Island Chapter of the American Institute of Architects along with special congressional recognition. The AIA Rhode Island cited the contextual nature of the project and celebrated the Cole Middle School for its sensitive massing and imaginative use of natural light.
